We "look old" because of wrinkles, lines, skin blotchiness, age-spots, loss of skin radiance, sagging skin, "feather" lips, under-eye puffiness, crow's feet and thinning lips. On a biological level, skin-aging is caused by: free-radical damage, changes in fat content of skin, changes in skin collagen, dehydration, DNA changes, degradation of the elastin polypeptides and certain disorders in the packing of the lipid matrix of the skin. In short, any anti-aging skin care cream, that doesn't attack ALL the problems associated with skin-aging, has no hope other than being an ineffective quick-fix or a band-aid on a bullet wound. Anyone who tells you otherwise does not know the facts. Shockingly though and despite it being scientifically possible, almost NO topical anti-wrinkle cream made by the cosmetic companies attacks ALL the "tell-tale signs" or "biological changes" associated with aging-skin. This means that to address each of the different biological causes of facial aging, we must lather our faces with 10 to 15 different anti-aging creams at once. One cream for fighting free-radical damage, one for collagen depletion and so on. The way anti-wrinkle & anti-aging skin care cosmetics are sold right now, unless women are determined to spend the rest of their lives applying 20 to 30 creams everyday on their faces they are without much hope. What most of us normal women end up doing is to apply a few creams that treat or "hide" a few problems associated with skin-aging. But for every skin-aging problem we attack, we're leaving several skin-aging problems unattended to and end up missing out on the wonderful youthful skin we could be having. Some ads in Vogue claim our bodies produce toxic-free radicals that cause wrinkles (true) and using anti-wrinkle creams containing antioxidants will eliminate free-radicals. Yes again, this is true. But what cosmetic companies don't tell you are that there are MANY different kinds of free-radicals, and all have SPECIFIC detoxifying antioxidants. For example, the singlet oxygen radical is quenched by beta carotene, the peroxyl radical is quenched by Vitamin E, the hydroxy radical is quenched by glutathione, and the dangerous oxy radical can be quenched by Ubiquinone. But why aren't there any anti-aging creams available that will seriously detoxify all free-radicals? You see, it simply costs too much to use all the really quality antioxidants that do everything the fancy ads in the magazines say their products do. It just couldn't compete with the cheaper anti-aging skin care products already on the market. So the cosmetic companies end up cutting costs on antioxidants and other ingredients, and leave out crucial anti-aging ingredients that are too costly regardless of how necessary they are in making our skin look younger. Top pharmacists will confirm this fact. For example, most anti-wrinkle creams on the market just put in a pinch of an extremely important antioxidant: Ubiquinone, only enough to be able to legally say they have it in their formula. They ignore the fact that ten times that amount may be needed to effectively fight wrinkles.
